After School Rehearsal Procedures

 

When we have after school rehearsals and practices, these procedures and guidelines will be in place unless specifically noted or changed in the event settings or information in the band calendar:

 

• Rehearsals normally run from 3:40-5:00

• Students are to stay after school and come to the band room when after school activities are released. No students are to leave campus at the end of the school day and then return for rehearsal or practice.

• Students are allowed to get snacks from the vending machines, as long as they are not consumed or brought into the band room (students may have their snacks in the hallway outside the band room from 3:15-3:35). If students cannot behave appropriately while in the hallways and/or getting snacks, this privilege may be suspended or revoked, so please conduct yourselves accordingly. Regardless, students will be allowed to and are encouraged to get water and use the restroom. The independence in doing this may be modified if hallway or restroom behavior becomes a problem.

• Since band is a co-curricular class, failure to attend after school rehearsals and/or unexcused absences without making up the absences will result in a student not being allowed to perform in concerts. Attendance at all rehearsals is mandatory. If a student misses a performance, this will negatively impact his/her grade unless a make-up assignment is completed. Please contact Mr. Pearce if you have any questions or concerns. 

• All rehearsals are closed rehearsals (no non-participants are allowed in the rehearsal).

• All students are to be picked up promptly at 5:00.

• Students are to be picked up from the car riders area at the front of the school.

• For student safety, parents are to line up to pick up students in a single car line. We are normally able to get 3-4 cars in the pickup area at a time, so we can move the line very quickly. For parent and community safety, we ask that you have the pickup line go back from the car rider area, backing into and around the gym parking lot, then back to the entrance to the school in a single-file line.

• For student safety, no students will be released to anyone to be taken to a parked vehicle. All students must be picked up in a vehicle from the car rider area at the front of the school.

• Please make sure your child knows the phone number of someone to contact at the end of rehearsal to verify his/her ride is on the way (Students do not have access after school to computers where that information might be stored on parent/student access sites).

• If your child is meeting you at KES, you must send a note letting me know this. After rehearsal, these students will be released to leave WMS from the bus loading area to walk over the hill to KES.

• No student will be allowed to walk home unless a note is sent in giving the student permission to walk home. Students who are walking home will not be allowed to leave until car rider traffic has cleared campus.

• Please make sure your band member has a way to contact you or other responsible adults after rehearsal.

• We understand circumstances may not allow you to be at WMS right at 5:00. Please make every reasonable effort to have your band member picked up in a reasonable amount of time once rehearsal has ended (no more than 30 minutes after the conclusion of rehearsal).
